Hi Everyone,
Just posting a quick blog to let you all know what's been happening
and what's coming up. Firstly I'd like to say how delighted and
honored we were to be asked to perform on Pat Kenny's last "late Late
Show" so Pat if your reading this "Thank you very much". After
appearing on Pat's last show on Friday night May 29th we performed in
the Jamboree Festival just outside Virginia, County Cavan that
Saturday 30th and then on to Dundalk "an Taine" theatre that Sunday
31st where we met up with our good friend Padraig Quigley from Dundalk
FM, we had a fantastic reaction from the audiences for both of our
concerts which was nice.
That bring's us up to more recent events, last Friday June 5th we
performed in the "Hawkswell theatre" in Sligo town, here we had a
great night and the audience really enjoyed themselves, after the
concert Brian and Darren were whisked off (by Brian) back to Dublin as
they had flights early next day, off on their holidays (vacation to
our American readers), Martin and I stayed in Sligo for the night and
went for a quiet pint.
We are off for this week and the next concert's we have are for the
Clancy Brothers Festival yippy! June 12th-15th, I have been looking
forward to and hoping to play this Festival since I first heard it was
happening, which was just before I joined the High Kings. Well now
we're doing it and I could'nt be happier, This will be the highlight
of my year. To play a festival in Honor of my Father and my Uncles and
lets not forget Tommy Makem either! in my home town of
Carrick-on-suir, County Tipperary, with the High Kings is a Huge deal
to me, so I hope we play good ha, ha.
Anyway I'll let you know how we get on in the Clancy Festival and also
we're playing in Galway June 18th at the Townhall which I'm also
looking forward to, and I'll let you know how we get on there as well.
Until next time, take care of yourselves,
All the best
Finbarr

Hi everyone.

Well, the shows have been brilliant over the last few months, with
ever increasing crowd's coming out to see us and join in the fun.
Time's are hard for so many people these day's, but it looks like
there is a search for some real music going on to block out the
economic woe's. We are happy to assist here!

This Friday we play The Hawkswell theatre in Sligo, then it's a long
overdue vacation.

On Monday 15th June and Tuesday 16th, we play the clancy festival in
Carrick on Suir, and this is sure to be a couple of great nights.

There is lots on the horizon, and all will be revealed shortly.
'Till then, hold tight, and thanks for the support!!

Darren.

So,it has been,onwards n upwards for thk.We have been playing away.We
had a great gig at dundalk and near cavan in a place called
"JAMBORIE!!".It was a lovely town and the sign was bright purple and
in HUGE lettering ,which looked really fun and now,I think ALL towns
should paint thier signs in a more flambouyant way...it wasn't a big
town. There was a HUGE shed and two football pitches, one with a
carnival/funfare at it.Uncanny after my last blog.STILL no
livestock.People were making livestock noises though,so I guess we're
getting closer...especially at the end of the show, which was nice of
them ,to wait.Although.....I mean the sex pistols and the Damned had
spitting,Tom Jones and Dicky Rock had knicker throwing and The doors
had roses,or thats what my mum told me anyway...SO,why NOT??Why ,for
the love of "the sweet home fires a burnin'",can the high kings' fans
not show their varied and individual, yet, impressively euphoric
states,in animal noises?Maybe,in place of a plain ole a hootin an a
hollerin or even aswell as it??Hmmmm??.......there's no point in
getting formualaeic about "how to be happy in public"...I mean,ya just
are or y'aren't and I know the animal noise-makers were having the
most fun,cos I seen em!

What about a movie?Then dinner?Is that uncool or "not done"??Go to a
movie, don't fill up on popcorn or anything edible and enjoy the
movie, losing your mind about being starving.(I'm there
now!!)Everything reminds u of food.The heroine,the aliens,the
spaceship...the final frontier itself is FOOD, by the time the movie
is over. You hadn't realised that it was epic when you went in.It was
an understated publicity campaign. So,by the interval, which you fill
with tapping each others wrists randomly, instead of your own and its
even MORE fun!You become aware that your fellow cinema go-ers are
beginning to split into two groups. The ones who are starting to
snicker n giggle ,even though they don't know why YOu are acting like
chimpanzees AND,those who are becoming concerned that you might be
"the type", to keep this behaviour going, throughout the second half of
the movie.By now u are aware you should be on fluids anyway and begin
to settle down.Breathing excersises are employed and you
realsie, actually, you feel great and are ready for more.Your mind has
completely taken over now.You are in your animal form and all of your
primeval instincts are installed. You become one with the movie.Your
brain is filled with gushing lovely blood ,on screen and off and your
imagination is evolving the plot and yet,you STILL have a numb
bum!(thats ass to the americans obviously,no fun intended!)...even all
this courage, cannot make you float buddah-like THROUGHOUT but
ultimately, dinner is worth it??Perhaps,u go to a vegetarian place with
honest portions, which would really be nice, as long as its close
by("value-city" also) and ,as long as you can make yourself walk in
the door and NOT into the burger bar across the street, which, after
all that blood, yer inner animal WANTS. .... . Yer face is looking
like, a snow leopard washin my granny's best china, whilst being chided
for scratching the plates! My advice here,is go with a vegetarian who
is inordinately good looking and nice. There are loads of them actually
but there are only very few of those, who HAVEN'T taken a night course
in preaching which is ok when yer ranting ,everyone does it
but, preaching when your really just HUNGRY,isn't "it" for me,when it
comes to being enticed into a vegetarian restaurant...or even
restaraunt( I could look it up in the dictionary but if its good
enough for James Joice,it's good enough for us...and being a
vegetarian meal,by the time u walk home....u'd be ready for more
food....hmmmm......this again might be a will power moment...

What is will power anyway?
